Kaba

Folk songs and dances from Thrace

Kaba explores the folk songs and dances of the region known as Thrace, the corner of the Balkan peninsula where Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey meet and share borders. The group was incubated during multiple and continuous travels in and around these countries, learning and playing in context. Because of its proximity to the middle east and equally due to the strong influence of Rom communities in musical circles, among other reasons, the musique of this region is unique and contains an immense depth and variety.

The « Kaba » touch comes from the meaning of the word : deep, dark, and heavy percussion and drones provide support for melodies older than time, linked together by original arrangements.
